King's Sutton beat Banbury West End B 7-1 in the Babolat Oxon Mixed Doubles League to win the Division 5 title. First pair Jordan Robinson and Steph Browne beat the BWE second pair, Rob Jones and Liz Rawnsley 6-0, 6-2 before overcoming their first pair, Mike Robinson and Andi Padbury, in a very closely fought match, winning 7-6, 7-6. Second pair, Jack Shardlow and Carrie Hicks, halved with the BWE first pair 0-6, 6-3 but beat the second pair 6-1, 6-0. The result capped a great season for King's Sutton, in which all three of their Babolat Oxon League teams - Men's, Ladies and Mixed - secured promotion from their respective divisions.
King’s Sutton Ladies are guaranteed promotion next year to Division 4 of the Oxfordshire Babolat Summer Tennis League following a hard fought 6-3 win away at North Oxford. First pair Sally McAllister-Little and Stephanie Browne saw off North Oxford’s second pair 6-3, 6-3 with Sutton’s second pair of Helen Loggin and Anne Maskell drawing against North Oxford’s first pair 3-6, 7-6. McAllister-Little and Browne just gained the edge on North Oxford’s first pair winning 6-4, 7-5 but Loggin and Maskell, having won the first set 6-1, lost the second 3-6 and then the third in a close tie-break.
It’s official - King’s Sutton B team have won the Banbury Summer League Division 4, nailing yet another 9-0 victory on Tuesday away to Brackley C. It was their final match of the season, with promotion to Division 3 now rubber-stamped!
Unfortunately much of the match had to be played under floodlights after a very late start (caused by the late arrival of one of the Brackley players).
But the team, consisting of Caro Stacy, Belinda Archer and Hilary Stratton for the ladies, and Callum Fairbrother, Matthew Allman and Russell Robinson for the men, kept their cool and steamed through to a decisive victory.
Two of the rubbers were declared as soon as hitting 6 games (in order to get as much play as possible completed in natural light) so what could well have been 8-3 victories will be reported as 6-5 - but it didn’t matter, because the league was already won!
In total, the B squad lost only one match in the whole season, and 6 of the 12 matches were won 9-0.
Congratulations everyone, and let the celebrations commence!
King's Sutton Men's A mathematically secured promotion from Oxfordshire Men's Division 7 with a crushing 8-0 win over Long Crendon A this afternoon. First pair Jack Shardlow and Callum Fairbrother beat the Long Crendon second pair 6-0, 6-1 before taking down the first pair 6-1, 6-3. Second pair Jordan Robinson and Matthew Allman beat the first pair 6-0, 6-4 and the second pair 6-3, 6-2 to complete the whitewash and guarantee promotion!

On a mainly sunny Saturday morning Jordan Robinson, Matthew Allman, Anne Maskell and Sandra Parsons headed to Byfield for a match in the Banbury Weekend Mixed League. The men got off to a great start winning both sets, whilst the ladies had a game of 2 halves with a 0-6 and 6-0 score line! Onto the mixed pairs and Jordan and Anne won 6-0, 6-1 and Matt and Sandra halved meaning KSTC came away with a 6-2 victory.
A win against Benson A has put our mixed team at the top of Div 5 in the Oxfordshire Leagues by the narrowest of margins! In the first round, Jerry Wright and Stephanie Browne beat the second pair comfortably while Helen Loggin and Dave Dalloway were outclassed by the first pair. Helen and Dave bounced back to secure a decent win over the second pair, while Jerry and Steph, in top form, stepped up to the mark to beat the first pair despite losing the first set 5-7.
King's Sutton Men A's promotion hopes were dented this afternoon, after a 6-2 defeat against Goring A. King's Sutton first pair, Jack Shardlow and Callum Fairbrother, beat the Goring second pair 6-4, 6-3, but were comprehensively beaten by the strong Goring first pair. Despite a battling performance in the strong wind, King's Sutton second pair, Matthew Allman and Jordan Robinson, were unable to add to the total. A big win is now needed in the last game to stay in with a chance of going up!
Kings Sutton Ladies boosted their chances of promotion to Division 4 of the Oxfordshire League with an outstanding 8-0 win over Wantage C. First pair Carrie Hicks and Sally McAllister-Little saw off Wantage’s second pair 6-1 6-4 with Sutton’s second pair of Helen Loggin and Stephanie Browne beating Wantage’s first pair 6-1, 6-0. In the second round Hicks and McAllister-Little took both sets against Wantage’s first pair 6-4, 6-3 while Loggin and Browne completed the victory with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Wantage’s second pair. The result has propelled Kings Sutton from the middle of the table to first position in a fortnight.
King's Sutton Mixed A continued their good run in the Oxfordshire Babolat Division 5 with a crushing 8-0 win over North Oxford this afternoon. King's Sutton first pair, Sally McAllister-Little and Jordan Robinson, started the afternoon with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-2 win over the North Oxford second pair, before taking down the first pair 7-6, 6-2. King's Sutton second pair, Carrie Hicks and Callum Fairbrother, edged out the first pair 6-4, 6-4, before beating the second pair 6-4, 6-1 to complete the whitewash. The win keeps the team near the top of the league and in with a great chance of promotion!
The march to promotion from Division 4 of the Summer League continued for King’s Sutton B team this week. They were victorious again, beating Deddington C a convincing 8-1. The team, consisting of Belinda, Caro, Anne, Callum, Struan and Robbie, notched up an average rubber score of 8-3, the one set they dropped being a close tie-break. Two matches remain in the season, against Hook Norton D and Brackley C, both of whom the team beat first time round. Division 3 beckons!
King's Sutton Men usurped Thame at the top of the OLTA Men's Division 7 this afternoon, with a hard fought 6-3 win over their promotion rivals. King's Sutton first pair, Jack and Callum, got off to a good start, beating the Thame second pair 6-2, 6-1. King's Sutton second pair, Jerry and Johnny, lost to the Thame first pair 1-6, 2-6, but bounced back in brilliant fashion to take down the second pair 6-3, 6-1. In the match between the first pairs, Jack and Callum recovered from losing a tough first set to square the match, before taking the victory in a tense championship tiebreak, eventually running out 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) winners. The win moves King's Sutton to the top of the table and keeps them in with a great shout of promotion!
King’s Sutton B continued their march towards promotion from Division 4 of the Summer League this week, trouncing promotion rivals Hook Norton C 9-0. The team, consisting of Jerry, Callum and Matthew for the men and Caro, Belinda and Sandra for the women, were hardly pushed by the away team, winning the majority of sets 8-3. Belinda and Sandra even won their 2nd/3rd ladies match 11-0. The team now have just three matches left in the season but appear untouchable at the top of the league!
King’s Sutton B notched up another convincing victory in the Banbury Summer League, this time in the home fixture against Deddington D. The team won 9-0, with second lady Belinda Archer scoring 11-0 in her mixed with Callum Fairbrother, then 10-1 and 9-2 in her ladies doubles with first lady Caro Stacy and third lady Sandra Parsons respectively. Caro and Sandra won their ladies doubles 9-2, but first man Jerry Wright and third man Darrel Foulk had a tighter match against Deddington D’s first and third men, being pushed to 6-5.
